As General Counsel to HNN Communities, Brett provides strategic legal advice to the leadership team and broader business on a wide variety of business activities and manages compliance with local, state, and federal laws affecting residential property management operations. Keeping the Company’s business model and goals in mind, Brett provides guidance and solutions to problems arising from various legal processes HNN is required to engage with.

Prior to joining HNN Communities, Brett served as Director of Government Affairs at the Washington Multi-Family Housing Association and practiced family law litigation for 7 years. Brett assisted in the creation of the first statewide Landlord Mitigation Fund to provide compensation to housing providers for damage and loss resulting from the use of rental premises and drafted legislation to expand access to the Program for COVID Relief and to assist housing providers and survivors of domestic violence secure safe future housing.

These programs have returned more than $40 million in otherwise lost revenue to housing providers.

Brett is a Northwest native, born and raised in the city of Seattle. Brett received his Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Santa Clara University and his Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University of San Antonio. Outside of the office, Brett enjoys spending time with his two dogs, Finley and Betty, taking them paddleboarding to explore local lakes across the Northwest.
